WANDERLUST: The Spruceton Inn
Those who know me know I love a good NYC getaway. The mountains, the trees, the fresh air — it's good for the soul. I much prefer the wake up call of the birds at dawn to the reverse signal of the garbage truck outside my bedroom window. Big surprise, I know. It seems that what was once regarded as some of the Catskills' best kept secrets are now getting their fair share of attention. At this point you've probably heard of The Graham & Co, the boutique hotel located in Phoenicia, NY. (But if you haven't, be sure to head on over to my earlier post for details.) While The Graham's decor makes me swoon, it can be hard to snag a room at this trendy joint.
Enter the Spruceton Inn, Bed & Bar. Located in West Kill, NY, this former farm-turned-inn combines all the niceties of your minimalist Brooklyn apartment with all the outdoorsy activities of upstate. Rooms range from $69–229 depending on the season, some offering a kitchenette and dining area. From there the world is your oyster. The Spruceton creates the perfect backdrop to unwind, complete with BBQs, hammocks, hiking, and fishing. The hard work and vision of owner and former Brooklynite, Casey Scieszka is practically spilling from this place. Yet another space with a penchant for simple style and sweeping landscapes...I'm sold.
